    Delivering Japanese Forged Knives Worldwide

Fujiwara Teruyasu Edged Tools Craft knives are exported and used in 84 countries around the world. Our traditional Japanese swordsmithing techniques and exceptional sharpness are loved by people in Western countries with a strong knife culture.

Fujiwara Teruyasu Edged Tools Craft launched its website as early as 2006, ahead of many others in the industry, and began sharing information about our craft with customers overseas. Today, we have many customers around the world, with demand so strong that customers often wait approximately six months for their orders.

We are now recruiting new team members to build a stronger production system while maintaining our quality.

    Blacksmith

    Since our founding in 1870,
For over 150 years, as swordsmiths,
    we havecrafted Japanese swords.

Today, Japanese swords are primarily works of art, making it difficult for many people to appreciate their cutting performance. We therefore incorporated traditional sword-making techniques into practical tools: kitchen knives.

From forging to shaping, a blacksmith's work involves more than ten processes. When you picture a blacksmith's workshop, the first scene that likely comes to mind is fire.
The process of forging steel in the fire is called "hizukuri." A block of iron heated to nearly 1,000°C is shaped into a kitchen knife simply by striking it with the skill and experience developed over many years.

    ◉ Skill Development Process

We teach the skills from the fundamentals. It takes at least five years to master the techniques from the basics of forging through shaping.

Our original steel, "Dewa Steel," has a carbon content of approximately 1.4% and is an extremely hard material that requires advanced heat-treatment techniques.

Although mechanization has advanced considerably, mastering this material still requires highly skilled craftsmanship.
That is why we are committed to making our knives entirely by hand.

Some knives, such as deba knives, use "Chigusa Steel" according to their intended purpose.
    * "Dewa Steel" and "Chigusa Steel" are registered trademarks of our company.

The key to beautiful, razor-sharp knives

We sharpen the steel knives after the blacksmithing process, creating beautiful knives with exceptional sharpness.
The work consists of more than ten processes, each carried out carefully with techniques backed by years of craftsmanship, time, and attention to detail.

We teach the skills from the fundamentals. It takes at least two years to master the basics of rough grinding, intermediate grinding, and final edge sharpening.

    Office Administration and Production Support

    Supporting tradition behind the scenes

When you think of knife making, you may picture a world of craftsmen.
In reality, a knife reaches the customer only because administrative and shipping work supports the craft behind the scenes.
This position involves not only general administrative tasks such as entering shipping documents and closing procedures, but also the "final stages" of manufacturing, including inspection, packing, and shipping.
Mornings are mainly spent inspecting purchased products and preparing shipments.
Each knife is carefully checked and packed individually.
Afternoons focus on administrative work such as entering data into the customer management system and closing procedures.
Accuracy when handling numbers is important, but no difficult operations are required.

    Sales

    Selling knives at department-store
    events and other venues

At events held by long-established department stores and other venues in Japan, you will sell knives and accept sharpening requests from customers who have purchased knives from us in the past.

Because these knives are built to last a lifetime and are often passed from parent to child, many customers return to have them sharpened, creating a strong community of regular customers.

It is not unusual for a daughter to bring in a knife that a previous generation of our staff sold to her mother.
This job requires both sharpening expertise and hospitality.

As I learned the job, I became more comfortable overall. I became able to move smoothly into the next task and give clear instructions to those around me.
Q | What is the workplace atmosphere like?
    Everyone takes their work seriously.
Q | What are your future goals?
Because we work with knives, some tasks involve risks. I want to help create an environment that encourages other employees to grow while keeping everyone safe and preventing injuries.

Depending on the position, you will develop the following skills.

Fundamentals of manufacturing processes (efficiency, accuracy, and safety)
